This Sunday (7th March) the Boys U16 continue in their quest to add outdoor National Champions to the Indoor Title they have already won.

They are playing at HSBC starting at midday against a good City of York side and I am sure that all support would be greatly appreciated.

This is an extremly talented side and to add the U16 Outdoor title to the
- U!6 Indoor National Championship
- Last Years U15 Outdoor National Championship
would add to an already brilliant effort.

Congratulations to the Under 16 Boys Indoor team who won their NATIONAL FINAL at Nottingham Trent FM Arena yesterday.

They beat Havant 7 - 3 with Harry Sellars scoring 5 of the goals

A man of the match performance from Bromley & Beckenham’s Harry Sellars clinched the U18 Boys Clubs title at the National Indoor Hockey Championships in Nottingham on Sunday morning against Havant.

From the outset Bromley & Beckenham (B&B) took the game to Havant with Harry Sainsbury forcing Havant goalkeeper Matt Levy into an early save. Less than a minute later the other Harry, Harry Sellers, had his goal bound shot cleared off the line by Havant's Daniel Faulkner.

It was not long before B&B broke the deadlock through Harry Sellers’ low flick at a penalty corner but Havant were level almost immediately through George Cairns who pushed home after good work from a teammate down the left hand side. Havant then took the lead a minute later through Josh Gibbard who tapped in from close range after the ball had rebounded to him
off the post.

B&B pulled themselves back level in slightly fortunate circumstances when Harry Sellers broke into the right hand side of the circle and his pass across circle was turned into the goal but an unfortunately Havant defender, the B&B boy credited with the goal.

Midway through the half the team in white were ahead after an excellent piece of play. A pinpoint through ball from Bromley & Beckenham captain Rob Farrington was met by Harry Sainsbury inside the circle. Sainsbury added the faintest of touches to guide the ball beyond Levy and inside the far post.

By now B&B were enjoying the better of the half and Sellers bagged his second from a low penalty corner effort into the bottom corner. Shortly after, his intercept on the halfway line allowed him the space to drive into the circle and his effort brought out the best in Levy who saved well with stick.

Just before the break Farrington got his reward for an excellent first period with a tidy finish into the bottom corner for 5-2. The Havant team talk had obviously fired up the Hampshire boys and three minutes into the second half Tom Martin in the B&B goal had to be sharp to
snuff out a one-on-one at the top of the circle. At the other end Sellers so nearly added to his tally but for the width of the post as he watched his shot across goal come back off the upright and away to safety.

On 19 minutes Havant looked certain to score after a good cross towards far post but Ollie Preston’s intervention prevented a goal. Martin then blocked well at the top of his circle from a Havant penalty corner but could do nothing to stop Sam Hatherley’s shot in the 21st minute.
From the left top of the circle Hatherley shaped his shot across the goalkeeper and into
the back of the net, hitting the top of the backboard.

Bromley & Beckenham seemed content to soak up Havant pressure, hitting back on the counter attack. Goal number six came four minutes from time as Sellers finished from close range with the simplest of tap ins after rounding the goalkeeper.

The goal sparked Havant into change as they replaced the goalkeeper with kicking back but it proved to be too little too late. By the time Sellers rounded off a fine display with his fifth in the 28th minute he had already seen Levy return to the pitch to save his penalty stroke effort but it was not to matter as BROMLEY & BECKENHAM finished the match 7-3 winners and
NATIONAL INDOOR CHAMPIONS for the first time.

Congratulations to the Under 16 Boys Indoor team who this weekend won all of their games at Fleming Park Leisure Centre. They now play next Sunday (10:00) in the NATIONAL FINAL at Nottingham Trent FM Arena as part of the National Finals Weekend being held there. Highlights of their game should appear on Sky later on Sunday.

Best of luck this weekend (23/24 Jan) to U16 Boys Indoor

Good luck to the Under 16 boys this weekend who are competing in the National Clubs Indoor Hockey Championships & Fleming Park Leisure Centre, Eastleigh, Nr Southampton, SO50 9NL.

They qualified for the Nationals having comprehensively won the South Region competition just before Christmas with an unbeaten five games. Beating Havant 4-2 in the final.

The aim is to add the National Indoor title to the team that won the National Outdoor Under 15 title last season. A win at the weekend will see them through to the final which is being held as the opener to the senior indoor competition on Sunday 31st January.

The squad is

Vic William's Funeral

The funeral of Vic Williams (ex Bromley C.C. Bar Steward) will take place on Tuesday 26th January at 12:45pm at Beckenham Crematorium and afterwards at Bromley Cricket Club.

The family have requested no flowers. If you wish to make a donation please do so at the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths. This can be done at the Co-Operative Funeral Directors, Bromley.

U16 Boys Indoor Success

Congratulations to the Boys U16 who having won the South Indoor Competition are on their way to the National Indoor Finals on the 23/24 January. (Details will follow as soon as I have them)

Although the team had not played much Indoor together it was superb team effort

FINAL vs. Havant = Won 4 - 2
(Havant had 3 players in the last 30 for England U16 Selection)

Congratulations and further good luck go to all players who should be very proud of their achievement and also to Roger Farrington & Neil Berry for all the efforts in the Coaching etc.

In an effort for anyone that wants to work off some of the Turkey we are going
to try and play a game on the grass at Beckenham C.C. on Sunday 27th December

The invite is open to all and we are planning to meet about 12.45 in the Long Room
to see what numbers are like and plan to start about 13:15. Please bring a white
and a blue shirt.

The game is weather and pitch condition permitting but there will be a post on here
Sunday morning if the game is cancelled

Paintballing! Sun 24th Jan

I'm organising a paintballing day on Sunday 24th Jan. It's likey to be at the one in Orpington, but as yet undecided.

The day will start at 9am and finish about 4pm, we'll have loads of diffrent games, so you'll have plenty of chances to sniper your mates. But, apparently 'Pistol Whipping' is not allowed and neither is fastening a bayonet to the end of your gun!

Your looking at a cost between £40-£60 depending on how many paintballs you go through. But i'll only need £10 upfront, in order to pay your deposit, the paintballs we can buy on the day.

All are welcome, both boys and girls, so if you fancy coming along and chasing your pals through the woods - then let me know.

Ronnie Fenn (inc. Funeral details)

It is with regret that I have to inform you that Ronnie Fenn sadly passed away a few days ago. Ronnie played for Bromley 1st X1 and a number of people in the club will have known him.

Our thoughts at this sad time are with his wife Jenny, daughters Julia and Valerie and son Stephen.

Thank you for coming down to support Bromley and Beckenham Men's 1st team.

With the new season under way and a lot of hockey to be played,

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about a few up and coming events that we are hosting.

Our first arranged social gathering is planned for Saturday 10th October; we will be firing up a barbeque up at Foxgrove Road. It will start around 18:30ish and everyone is welcome! With a heap of home games that day, it is hoped that captains encourage their teams to stick around and settle into the social aspect of the club.

Secondly; Saturday 31st October is planned to be the annual club Fireworks night. Due to be Details will be posted on to our website soon.

Finally, this year welcomes the first ‘Bromley and Beckenham’ raffle. Raffle tickets will be sold for £5 and we encourage the whole club to chip in with ticket sales or finding suitable dontaions. The following is a list of some of the prizes already donated:

- Top of the range Gryphon Hockey Stick (RRP £200)
- One hour’s batting coaching with England/Kent batsman, Rob Key.
- Sony Walkman Mobile Phone (PAYG)
- plus various other ‘Sports Equipment’

Mens Club Trials Day - Saturday 12th September

The Mens trials day will be held this coming Saturday at the Langley Park Astro.

The captains of the 2's, 3's and 4's have met and an initial selection has been outlined. They will contact players later today so you will have an idea about selection for these teams.

Please make every effort to attend the trials as it is important to get the correct players into the each team.

Due to selection issues in the 3's and 4's last year we are attempting to put together more permanent squad lists of at least 18 players for all of the teams. This will include at least 5
U18 players in every team.

Please try and report 15 mins before the start time of the Trials & please bring a white and dark shirt.
