Bromley and Beckenham came from behind to win the Men’s 2nd XI Cup in a thrilling game which saw five goals and nine yellow cards at Bowdon HC. The game looked to be heading Sheffield Hallam’s way after leading 2-0 at half time, but a fantastic come back from Bromley and Beckenham saw them get back to 2-2 before winning the game in extra time on the golden goal rule. Sheffield Hallam took the lead on 14 minutes after a great team move finished with Richard Marshall rounding the keeper and stroking the ball into the net. They then doubled their lead just three minutes later when Amaan Merali scrambled the ball in from a penalty corner. The score remained at 2-0 until the 56th minute when Bromley and Beckenham got back into the game through Adam Kitching scoring in open play. The come back was complete when Tim Johnson converted a penalty corner on 59 minutes. The game went into extra time after Bromley and Beckenham survived a last minute penalty corner and it was Rob Wakeman who ensured that they took home the cup when he scored in dramatic style on 79 minutes in open play which started emphatic celebrations and left Sheffield Hallam devastated.

Kent Cup Finals Day

Bromley/Beckenham and Holcombe had a long struggle in the Veterans Final, being level 2 – 2 at full time. Brom/Beck gained a two-goal advantage in extra time, and then held off some determined Holcombe efforts to take things to a penalty competition.

In the Men’s Cup Final. An early Holcombe goal was quickly countered by one from Bromley/Beckenham, and the game remained closely contested for a long while, with each side scoring another goal. However, Holcombe gradually gained a slight edge to go into a 4 – 2 lead, and even when they were briefly down to nine players, they were able to prevent their opponents from converting this advantage into goals. Nevertheless Brom/Beck maintained their pressure to the very end, forcing a corner on the stroke of time. However, even if this had been converted, it would not have prevented Holcombe from achieving their sixth successive Final victory.

Another great year for the Juniors.

From Chris Rule.

Pleased to report that our Boys have completed a clean sweep by
winning the U18, U16 and U14 Kent Leagues.

Our U14’ Clinched victory yesterday against Canterbury. Needing
only to avoid a 5-0 win to take the league, under the leadership of
Neil Berry we brushed aside our nearest contenders 7-3.

Our U16’s under the leadership of Chris Dodd and Mike Howes won
their competition last weekend. As there are two leagues the top 4
from each went into a cup knockout competition. We drew Canterbury
in the QF’s and despite missing some of their top players, they won 2-1.

The Finals day last weekend saw them beating T Wells in the Semi’s
and Sutton Valence by the same score in the Final.

Our U18’s won their league with straight wins, as in fact did the U14’s.

The U18’s lost to the competition favourites Reading, with 4 U18
internationals in their side, our players stepped up a level or two in
this game. A very tight first half saw us marginally edged out.
We went 1-0 down after 26 minutes to a PF.
The second half saw us dominate the first 20 minutes, but despite
this we could not convert a number of chances nor the short corners
Reading conceded. A mistake with 12 minutes to go, gave Reading a
chance to stretch their lead and it was not going to be missed by their
International striker. Pressing forward we conceded another shortly after,
and whilst a disappointing result, our players should be very proud of the
standard of play they achieved.
