Please note the AGM is next Tuesday. 8pm start in the long room,

Agenda

Minutes from 1st Bromley and Beckenham AGM

Level 1 umpiring course

LEVEL 1 UMPIRING COURSE - Holcombe are running a level 1 umpiring course in 2 parts on 21st and 28th June and have offered Brombeck some places on their course. As a club we need as many umpires as possible to share the workload, in addition, as players this will give you a better understanding of the rules and a certain to sympathy for the person blowing the whistle.

The cost is 27 pounds per person (which the club will look to reimburse)- if you are interested in attending please call Nicky Wilkes (ladies fixture sec) on 0208 850 6308 as soon as possible as places will be first come first serve and the take up at Holcombe will be high.

Thanks

Nicky

And congratulations to Becky Penn, having umpired at the National Youth Hockey festival, held at Highfields Nottingham has now been selected for England Hockeys National Young Umpire promising list, one of only 21 in the UK, Not bad for someone who only passed her level 1 just over a year ago !!

Ben Simpson memorial update

I caught up with Rob Simpson (Ben and Joe's father) at Ben's memorial football game. We agreed that it would be good to let all our members know where some of the proceeds from the generous donations that were made at Ben's funeral.

Here are some of the benfactors :

1 Woodland Trust -10 trees have been planted in Ben's memory in a wood at Yetminster in Dorset.

2 Laurie Engel Fund - Laurie was the 14yr old son of journalist, Matthew who died of a rare form of cancer around the same time as Ben. There was distinct lack of appropriate facilities for a lad in his early teens at his local hospital and Matthew intends to put that right. He also wrote a very moving article that captured how we all felt after Ben's death

3 Langley Park School-Cricket - Cliff Williams to set up a bursary to help promising young lads with specialist coaching.

4 Cardiac Risk in the Young - CRY's vision is to work with cardiologists and family doctors to promote and protect the cardiac health of young people.

5 Guy's Hospital.

6 Ben's Bench at the club (outside the summer pavilion)

7 We have also established a Scholarship in Ben's name to help each season gifted juniors and ensure they progress in our club.

Once again thanks to all those whe donated.

Canterbury Photos

After Emma G's report of the high's and low's of the Canterbury tour weekend, Lynsey has deluged my inbox with photos, which are now linked from the menu on the left under 'Photo Archive', it seems to me that getting clothes coloured like purple nasties is the order of the day...

Next season - new challenges

Next season the club faces some of the largest changes that our club will ever face. Our men's first team are promoted into the national league, meaning playing games on Sunday's and we are pushing hard to get our women's first team to national league status after their promotion for the second season running.

All this success comes at a price. We need to ensure that our top level men's, women's and most importantly junior players get the support and coaching they require to continue their hockey development. This season alone we contributed a third of the Kent U15 boys side who won the national counties tournament, and at U13-U19 level we have over 50 juniors playing county or higher.

To ensure that we progress we are looking at the way the club develops and retains it talent. This season more than most we need to ensure that we generate the maximum value possible from our social events and our fundraising/sponsorship efforts. Therefore we are setting up 2 working groups, one focussed on Sponsorship/Fundraising and the other on Social/Events.

We have a Hockey Exec. meeting next week to work out the remit for each of these working groups, and who from the hockey committee will help run them. However we are looking for help from within the section. So if you are a fundraiser, you think your company might be able to help out, or you would like to get involved in the planning of next years social events, then please drop me a line at chair@brombeckhc.co.uk we look forward to hearing from you.
