Junior umpire shines...
Congratulations to Becky Penn (BromBecks Girls U18 Squad) who is a Level 1 Umpire and is part of the South Region Young Umpires Scheme. Throuhout the season as well as assisting as a Coach to the Girls U14's, she has regularly umpired our Club Junior games.
She was then asked by South Region to umpire a number of Junior County games in February and March and was spotted by the Surrey Umpires Association. This resulted in her being asked to a University Ladies Final, and a few weeks later the Surrey Boys U16 cup semi final and Final with an FIH Umpire.
Surrey then nominated her to umpire at the South Regional Juniors finals and Umpires Challenge at Woking last weekend. As a result she has been selected by England Hockey as one of only six Junior Umpires from the South to go forward and Umpire at the National Championships in Nottingham in May, which is a great achievement.
Thanks are also due to Anne Bartley who gave her considerable encouragement and support at the end of last season
