Ladies 4s versus Remnants
League Saturday 13th October
Score: won 4-1
Scorers: Jo Mcleave (2) Charlotte Walker-Jones and Suzy Cole
Man of the Match: the whole team
Improving results over the last few weeks culminated in the 4s first win of the season in Division one over Remnants.
It was a close first 20 minutes with neither team creating many chances. An inspired substitution bringing on Jo Mcleave up front quickly resulted in the opening goal. Delyth won the ball in midfield and found Jo in space clear through on the goalkeeper. She calmly took the ball past the keeper, but too wide and everyone, including their defence, thought she couldn't score, but to our surprise the shot went in (have faith in your sister, Susanna).
Despite reminding the defence to concentrate and keep a clean sheet until the approaching half time, an unfortunate deflection off Gail Arnott caught the defence on the wrong foot and allowed the opposition to score.
A (legendary) rousing half time team talk and copious amounts of jelly babies spurred Bromley and Beckenham on in the belief that we could win this game. Lauren Trenholm and Kat Woodall in defence were determined to let no-one past them and Jess Judge ran tirelessly overlapping down the right, creating the perfect platform for the midfield to dominate. The next goal was decisive, Jess and Gail played a one two down the right before Gail passed the ball to Jo who beat the defender and drew the keeper before passing to Charlotte to score. A similare move created by Delyth and Lauren Underwood allowed Jo to find Suzy Cole who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.
Remnants then came back into the game. Rachel Smith made several good saves from consecutive short corners before Sue cleared from defence to Lauren Underwood who found Debbie Sawyer on the right, crossing the ball to Suzy whose first shot was saved. Delyth went for the rebound and her shot, which was going in/wide depending on who you talk to was poached by Jo near the line.
Our first win in Division One - hopefully more to come
