1s Drop Points in 0-0 Draw
Bromley and Beckenham Ladies 1s v Bishop’s Stortford, home, league, Saturday 21st January
Drew: 0-0
On Saturday, BromBeck ladies 1s dropped points for only the second game this season by drawing 0-0 with Bishop’s Stortford. We thought that it was going to be a tough game as they’d given us a good run for our money earlier on in the season and we were right.
BromBeck started well and for the first 20 minutes or so we played some of the best hockey that we’ve done so far this season. Our passing was fluent, 50-50 balls were ours and the skills were silky. However, we were unable to capitalise by taking the lead. For the rest of the half, Bishops’ Stortford began to get more involved in the game but were having difficulty breaking down our back 3 who were working well together.
We weren’t too disheartened at half time as we were all positive that if we carried on as we were it would only be a matter of time before we took the lead. Unfortunately this was not the case.
Despite having many opportunities we just could not put the ball in the back of the net. We hit the post twice and had one saved off the line and I think we slowly started to realise that it was just going to be ‘one of those days’. We didn’t give up though and continued to try and find a way through right to the end but it just wasn’t going to happen. Bishop’s Stortford’s defence were a well-organised unit and everyone worked hard for each other, 2 facts which seemed to belie their surprisingly low league position. Final score 0-0.
It was obviously a shame not to win this game as we’d played some superb hockey but we weren’t too disappointed as we knew that we’d been unlucky and at least we didn’t lose!
Man of the match: Lynsey Askew – had a fantastic game at Left Mid. Was very influential in a lot of the moves going forward and also tracked back to help in defence when required.
Squad: Alison Fox (GK, capt), Chris McNeil, Vicky Ives, Jess Riley, Sarah Phelps, Lynsey Askew, Sarah Bentley, Sophie Davies, Lucy Shepherd, Emma Shepherd, Lisa Powell, Emma Greenway
Drew: 0-0
